OSAO gets modern school premises in Haukipudas
Brand new premises have been constructed and finished for the Haukipudas unit of the Oulu Vocational College. The Minister of Education Krista Kiuru came to inaugurate the premises.
The Oulu Region Joint Authority for Education (Osekk) implemented the new construction in two phases, the first one getting finished in 2011 and the second phase in the end of 2013. Premises that were previously scattered in several different locations are now all within one campus area. The overall number of square meters in the construction is 19 700 m2 and the overall costs were 32M euro. The constructor and the owner of the premises is Osekk.
Sustainable energy solutions
The heating systems used in the new premises are geothermal heating and solar energy. In addition, there are different sorts of heat recovery methods in use. There are about 120 geothermal bored wells that reach down to 200 m. Lighting is automatically controlled and it has been designed to have a low electricity consumption. The purity of the premises has been ensured already during construction by following the P1 purity class.
Designing with the users
-Our old premises were badly outdated, both pedagogically and technically. They also suffered from big problems with inside air. Now we have a working environment that is practical, modern and safe from the point of view of teaching, says director Alpo Kaisto from Haukipudas. Teaching has taken place non-stop during the construction of the new buildings.
The new premises serve their users in the best possible way thanks to the fact that wishes from the staff and students were taken into consideration already when the buildings were being drawn. -Industry- and operation-specific teams were formed among the staff, and they sketched the basic ideas of what we wanted from the new premises. Osekk then furthered these plans within the financial frame, and we got well-functioning solutions, says Kaisto contented.
