STUDYING AT OULU VOCATIONAL COLLEGE

The three-year vocational degree is a demonstration of skill. The degree opens up many opportunities in the labour market and provides the same formal qualifications for further studies as upper secondary school. The students may combine upper secondary school studies with a vocational degree. It is also possible to combine two vocational degrees.

International operations and co-operation are a natural part of everyday life at Oulu Vocational College. The most important form of co-operation is student and trainee exchange. The students aiming for the national and international top ranks in sports can utilise the possibilities offered by the Oulu Region Sports Academy. The Oulu Region Sports Academy provides young people with an opportunity to engage in professional sports training while studying.

On-the-job-learning

All vocational study programmes will include on-the-job learning. All three-year vocational qualifications require the completion of 120 study weeks, of which on-the-job learning must account for at least 20. The aim of on-the-job learning organised at workplaces, where students perform in service or production capacities, is to improve the vocational skills of students and their readiness to move into the workforce. On-the-job learning increases co-operation between vocational education institutions, the private sector and other working communities. It also makes students more employable and gives companies and other workplaces easier acces to trained or qualified labour.

On-the-job learning periods can be scheduled to take place during different study years, and teachers and instructors are responsible for assessment. Students are always entitled to receive a separate testimonial from the employer. Oulu Vocational College has co-operation with about 500 companies as on-the-job learning places. To develope the process of on-the-job learning institution has launched TOP-tekijät web-service. Web-service offers useful information on available workplaces and employees, contracts and contracts for students, teachers and companies.
